The phrasing of the quote sheds an optimistic and positive light on the Europeans and their relations with the Native Americans. She claims that the phrasing is "poetic" and that it doesn't accurately portray the reality of the time. There was genocide. There was rape. There were savage acts committed by the Europeans to the Native people; however, this water-down recall of events describes an otherwise near-pleasant experience with the assimilation of European settlement in North America.
